How did you come to realise you wanted to design gardens and outdoor spaces?
I was in my early 20's travelling through Europe and living in London when I realised I was obsessed with how people lived in their space. I guess it was seeing if from a place of unknown that my curiosity came about.
In 2008 I took the plunge to follow my dreams and left full time work (while with a mortgage) to study Landscaping, Horticulture and Garden Design for the next two years. I haven't stopped learning and immersing myself in the design industry from the day I made the decision to give it my all and everything. No plan B.
What is it that you love most about what you do?
Having an idea, dreaming it, working it, evolving it and then watching it take shape and come to life is unreal. Making something from nothing and bringing the client along for the journey is incredible. Knowing their lives and how they live day to day is going to change because of the spaces we create is what I love.
Do you have a fave architectural style? If so, what is it and why?
I am drawn to Art Deco. I would love to immerse myself in the architecture of Miami. I also love Mid Century. To live in Palm Springs would be a DREAM! I'm not sure if it's the white buildings, form of them or the design principles... but these two styles are two of my faves!
Describe your ideal outdoor space...
It would have to be cliff side with ocean views (sunset facing)... There would be a pavilion with an infinity edge pool and it must be in a hot, tropical destination. And lots of palms and cactus. And green grass. With a beautiful beach cove below, perfect for snorkelling...
DESIGN - home , workspace , outdoor space... it's all one to me.
HOW CAN YOU MAKE YOUR SPACE A PLACE YOU LOVE?
Your home serves as a destination to entertain family & friends, a place to create life-long memories with loved ones and as a destination to revitalise the mind, body & soul. No matter how big or small your space, it's all about working out what it is you really want from your home.
SO HOW DO YOU WORK OUT WHAT IT IS YOU WANT FROM YOUR SPACE?
The best place to start is by thinking about how you want to feel in your home & outdoor space... Kind of like when choosing a holiday - the mood you want to feel and the activities you would like to take place usually shapes your choice of destination, right? Well the same can go for mapping out your space.
Once you have thought, or made a list, about how you want to feel and interact within your space, start collating images of interiors, holiday destinations, gardens, architecture... even fashion... that evoke these feelings. This collection is your tool to communicating the design of your space.
We then start the design process with an Initial Design Consultation. Here we take a look at your collection and the space (whether it be on site or over plans) and talk through ideas, wish lists, likes, dislikes and how you see yourself and your family & friends interacting within it.
The consult usually takes 1 - 1.5 hours... and is always best to be approached with an open mind.
After the consult, a design brief and design fee proposal will be put together and sent via email.
Sketches and reports are not produced or given at the consult so it's always welcome for you to ask questions and take notes throughout the meeting.
The Initial Design Consultation Fee is $330 inc. GST
Consultations are onsite in Perth + via Skype/phone for locations around Australia & international.
Please allow 1 - 1.5 hours.
From our conversations and inspiration images, we start to imagine what is to become of your space and begin turning the ideas into a visual 3D design. Once the 3D design is complete, we meet - with laptop in hand - to virtually walk through your space. This gives you an amazing insight into what your it will look and feel like, and allows us to discuss the concept and make changes throughout the meeting. This is the first of three stages in our design process.
The second stage is DESIGN DEVELOPMENT. After our first meeting the 3D perspective images are emailed to you for you to discuss between yourselves and provide comment on any amendments you would like to make. The updates are made, detail plans drawn up and emailed to review.
The third stage is FINAL PLAN/DOCUMENTATION delivery. This is the complete drawing set including the 3D perspectives, elevations, sections, DA drawings, electrical plan, furniture/material schedules, planting plan & planting schedule.
For interstate and overseas clients, a phone or Skype/Facetime meeting is made and plans are delivered via email or Dropbox and post.
Masterplan garden designs start from $7,200.00 + GST. Plans include 3D Design, Detail Drawings, Elevations, Sections, Planting Plan, Lighting Plan & Material schedule.
Home renovation designs (including the INTERIOR & EXTERIOR) start from $22,000.00 + GST. Plans include 3D Design, Detail Drawings inc interior & exterior layouts, Elevations, Sections, DA Plans, Planting Plan, Electrical Plan, Window Schedule & Material schedule.
Please note: An accurate design fee cost is determined after the Initial Design Consultation and is a set fee.
